Country and Location
Florida is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States, bordering Alabama to the northwest and Georgia to the north. It was the 27th state admitted to the United States. Much of the land mass of the state is a large peninsula with the Gulf of Mexico to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. It is nicknamed the "Sunshine State" because of its generally warm climate (subtropical in the northern and central regions of the state, with a true tropical climate in the southern portion). The state has four large urban areas, a number of smaller industrial cities, and many small towns. The United States Census Bureau estimates that the state population is about 19,000,000 right now, ranking Florida as the fourth most populous state in the U.S. Tallahassee is the state capital and Miami is the largest metro area.

Climate
The climate of Florida is tempered somewhat by the fact that no part of the state is very distant from the ocean. North of lake Okeechobee (Cocoa Beach is north of this lake), the prevalent climate is humid subtropical climate, while south of the lake has a true tropical climate. Cocoa Beach's climate can be classified as subtropical. High temperatures in the state seldom exceed 38°C, with much of Florida commonly seeing a high summer temperature of 32°C. During late autumn and winter months, Florida has experienced occasional cold fronts that can bring high winds and relatively cooler temperatures for the entire state, with high temperatures that could remain into the 4–15°C and lows of 0–10°C for few days.
Spot conditions: The beach
The white sandy beach is big. There is enough place for save launching and landing. Take notice of some rules. There is only one no kiteboarding area. Patrick Air Force Base (3 miles south of Cocoa Beach) has banned kiteboarding due to low flying planes. Please don't kite anywhere near the base. Please don't kite on crowded holiday weekends, memorial day, labor day or 4th of July.
The water conditions
Because of the location of the beach, you can choose between the ocean (small waves, with strong winds medium sized waves) and a flat water lagoon on the east (cocoa beach is the ocean side). The water temperature is warm, 26°C in summer and 20°C in winter. You only need a wetsuit (or shorty) from December-March. Watch out for fisherman, swimmers and surfers.
The wind conditions
The best and windiest months are October-May (frontal winds). The main direction is east, wich is onshore. But the wind can blow from all direcitons on a good day. The most riliable months are April-May (frontal wind combined with thermal winds).
