Climate
Most of Germany has a temperate seasonal climate in which humid westerly winds predominate. The climate is moderated by the North Atlantic Drift, which is the northern extension of the Gulf Stream. This warmer water affects the areas bordering the North Sea including the area along the Rhine, which flows into the North Sea. Consequently in the north-west and the north, the climate is oceanic; rainfall occurs year round with a maximum during summer. Winters are mild (0°C) and summers tend to be cool, though temperatures can exceed 30°C for prolonged periods.
Spot conditions: The beach
The sandy beach size is really big (2km wide). It is allowed to access the beach by car. The kitesurfzone is south of the beach access. During summer the beach can be crowded. With strong conditions and high tide the beach can be submerged by the sea.
The water conditions
With normal conditions the water is pretty choppy. At low tide the water is shallow and there is a strong offshore current. With strong winds there can be some small to medium sized waves. The water temperature is 7°C in April and 20°C in the summer. Whole year you need a normal wetsuit.
The wind conditions
There are no thermal or trade winds here. So the winds are frontal. During summer (June-August) the wind is lighter. In spring (March-May) and fall (September-October) the chance for strong winds are bigger, up to 30+ knots. The best wind derections are northwest, southwest and east. The main winddirections are from southwest to northwest. These directions are all side-onshore to onshore.
Facilities
Because this beach is a famous beach for year all facilities you need are available. Try to park your car on the hard sand.
