Slingshot developed another Wakestyle and Freestyle classic for this year. The Lunacy 2011. We could test the new Lunacy in 129×39. The Lunacy has always been the classic board for freestyle and Wakestyle riding as it could offer one of the best pop on the market. Not only due to the influence of Ruben Lenten who is barely happy with less than perfect, the board is a high performance wakestyle board. To get that effect, the lunacys have always had a very straight outline and have been pretty stiff to gain maximum pop.

Compared to the last year’s modell there is heaps that has changed. Most obvious is the outer appearance of the board. The outline is probably the only feature that has not changed that much. It is still very straight to build up as much pop on the edge as possible. More changes can be found on the bottom. The Lunacy has channels now in order to give it more controll. We had the feeling that it lost a bit lightwindability. However in the size of 129×39 not the feature you would look for in the first place. The board still has a single concave. The sides are made with a sort of hard rubber. That makes the edge unbreakable. We tried to damage the edge without success whatsoever. Same with the new sort of layer on the bottomside. Rocks or gravel cannot do any harm to the bottom. We love it.

The deck has a new feature called Fastrack. We already introduced it to you. It is as simple as it looks. Plugs in the fastrack, find your favourite stance and go for it.

The characteristics of the new Lunacy has not changed concerning pop, however it has become way softer. The edge goes super soft through chop and little waves. It is not as hard as last time and whoever missed comfort in riding will find it in this year’s board. Fortunately it has not lost its pop. So we can recommend it to everyone who looks for a freestyle and wakestyle board which is soft to their knees. We wish we could have tested the 132×41 but the size was no longer available at that time.
